DEscRIPTION The Model 242 Pocket Vibration Meter is a small, portable vibration meter for checking vibration on all types of rotating machinery including fans, pumps, motors, blowers, compressors, and other types of machines. The Model 242 Meter and vibration sensor are contained in a single, hand-held high-impact polystyrene unit. The operator simply selects displacement(mils), velocity(ips) or acceleration (g's) and begins taking measurements. The meter will hold the displayed reading for 60 seconds to allow time for the operator to read it. An automatic shut off feature shuts the meter off after one minute when the meter is mot in use. This feature conserves battery life.
Model 242 features easy-to-read LCD display, pushbutton operation and light-weight portability.
BENEFITS OF VIBRATION MONITORING
Vibration monitoring is a simple, effective maintenance tool that can help rotating equipment manufactures, service contractors and maintenance departments save costs and increase profitability.
Studies show most rotating machinery failures are preceded by a rise in vibration levels. Excessive vibration results from bad bearings, cracks in pipes and foundations, broken mounting bolts, misalignment and unbalance. Even more serious, an entire HVAC system, production line, or pumping operation could be shut down due to an individual piece of equipment breaking down.
Periodically measuring and recording vibration data in rotating machinery reveals trends and changes in vibration levels. Analyzing this data assists operators to schedule maintenance. Minor, less costly problems are corrected before they become expensive failures.
Vibration monitoring is useful in all types of industrial applications including manufacturing, commercial building, processing plants, pumping operations, automotive assembly, power generation, engineering and marine operations.
